Em batalha sangrenta e intensa, Dustin Poirier vence Dan Hooker no UFC Vegas 4; Philipe Lins é nocauteado

In its seventh event since resuming activities amid the coronavirus pandemic, the UFC put on another good event at the UFC Apex, in Las Vegas, Saturday (27th). In the main event, a bloody battle full of highlight moments, Dustin Poirier defeated the tough Dan Hooker by unanimous decision. In the co-main event, the experienced Mike Perry had control of the altercation against Mickey Gall, winning unanimously.

The main card of the event also featured Takashi Sato, who knocked out Jason Witt in just 48 seconds, and Julian Erosa, who used his good Jiu-Jitsu to submitted Sean Woodson with a D’Arce choke in the third round of the fight. Another fight that finished, in a very unusual way, involved heavyweight Maurice Greene, who even from below, fitted in a kind of katagatame (arm-triangle choke) and forced Gian Villante to tap. The only Brazilian in action in the event, Philipe Lins barely had time to show his worth and ended up being knocked out by Tanner Boser in the opening round.

Poirier beats Hooker in tough fight

Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker started the fight cautiously, both fighters exchanging kicks, while trying to find the best distance. With a larger reach, Hooker started to grow in production and applied more strikes, ending the first round with a slight advantage. In the second round, right from the start, Dustin Poirier applied sequence of strikes that made the fight even more lively. Dan Hooker was also trying to answer and, in the last seconds, he even connected a brilliant sequence of punches and uppercuts, with Poirier being saved by the bell.

Dustin Poirier took initiative by being more precise with his striking in the third round, until the moment he was knocked down by Hooker. The New Zealander managed to escaped a guillotine and started to ground and pound the American. Towards the end off the round, Poirier managed to stand up and started connecting more punches, taking a slight advantage. The pace slowed in the fourth round, until Hooker took Dustin down, again without causing to much damage. Showing good strength, Poirier reversed his position, and started to ground and pound and even tried a finish on two occasions, without success.

In the fifth and final round, took a final effort with both fighters already worn out. After quite moments without much emotion, Dan Hooker managed to take Dustin down, but did not hold the position for long. The fight came to an end with Dustin Poirier laying down some ground and pound, which helped his case for this victory by unanimous decision in the hands of the judges.

Perry overcomes Gall and wins again

As he is already known for his fighting style, Mike Perry, from the beginning, took the initiative in his fight against Mickey Gall. The first round was balanced until the last minute, when Perry managed a takedown and landed some ground and pound on the ground and opened up a slight advantage. In the second round, the fight followed the same script as the previous round, with Perry striking from above and maintaining his superiority. The fight was brought back to its feet in the final seconds and Perry found a way to knockdown Gall with some powerful right handed  blows.

In the last round, Perry maintained his offensive style and, connected more blows, dominating the actions more and more in the face of a tiered out Mickey Gall. Mike Perry managed to find time to take the fight to the ground once again, applying more blows. With that, he won by unanimous decision in the hands of the judges, finally landing a victory after two consecutive defeats for the promotion.

Philipe Lins is brutally knocked out

After debuting at Ultimate with a loss to Andrei Arlovski, Philipe Lins returned to action this Saturday, but yes again he suffered a setback. The only Brazilian in action on the card, started the fight by taking the initiative and connected with some good punches, but he was surprised by a powerful right hand blow by Tanner Boser, who fired a brutal sequence  of blows and knocked out the Brazilian in the first round of the fight. With the win, the Canadian recovers from a negative result suffered against Ciryl Gane, while Philipe Lins suffered his second straight defeat in two fights for the promotion.

Outros destaques

O card preliminar do UFC Vegas 4 contou com apenas quatro combates, mas teve bons momentos para os fãs de MMA. O destaque ficou por conta da jovem Kay Hansen. Com apenas 20 anos, a americana teve boa atuação e, diante da experiente Jinh Yu Frey, ex-campeã peso-átomo do Invicta FC, saiu vencedora após aplicar um belo armlock no terceiro round de combate, mostrando uma boa técnica de Jiu-Jitsu. As lutas preliminares ainda contaram com as vitórias de Youssef Zalal por decisão unânime sobre Jordan Griffin e a bela guilhotina de Khama Worthy, finalizando Luis Peña no terceiro assalto.

 

Other highlights

The preliminary card for UFC Vegas 4 featured four matches, but it had good moments for all MMA fans. The highlight was the young American fighter Kay Hansen. At only 20 years of age, she put on a good performance against the experienced Jinh Yu Frey, former atom-weight champion of Invicta FC. Hansen came out the winner after applying a beautiful armbar in the third round, showing a good technique in Jiu-Jitsu. The preliminary card also saw the victories of Youssef Zalal by unanimous decision over Jordan Griffin and a beautiful guillotine by Khama Worthy, submitting Luis Peña in the third round.
