Fans of the “Mortal Kombat” franchise got excited with the teaser of the new movie, which is scheduled to premiere in April. And one character was inspired by one of the main fighters in the UFC nowadays. Lewis Tan, who plays Cole Young, a veteran MMA fighter in the film, revealed in an interview to “Entertainment Weekly” that Jorge Masvidal, welterweight fighter, inspired the character.
The actor also said that one of the scenes in the movie was based on an amazing KO from the fight Masvidal vs Ben Askren, in UFC 239. The character of Young is in a fight and he leans up against the cage, tapping into the iconic image of Masvidal before delivering a flying knee. “That’s what Jorge Masvidal did before he knocked out Ben Askren in [five] seconds and set the whole MMA community on fire,” Tan stated.
After this statement, Jorge Masvidal celebrated the fact that he served as inspiration for one character of the Mortal Kombat film: “Actors getting inspired by my moves is an honour. I am thrilled to watch this movie,” posted the athlete.
