Israel Almeida was the best under 69kg division at Abu Dhabi World Pro. The young GFTeam athlete won the classifying among Brazilians and beat Yaroslav Blazhko, Juan Calderon, Gabriel Sousa and Ali Monfaradi, respectively.
“It was overwhelming to fight the best in the world and beat them all. I was able to show my best Jiu-Jitsu. I showed what I am capable of. The hardest fight was against Marcio André. I beat him by 3 – 1 at the very last minute,” Israel Almeida celebrated.
“Being an athlete in Brazil is tough. Jiu-Jitsu can injure you so you have to be very well-prepared with: supplements, physiotherapy among others. You also have to pay for plane tickets and enrollments to important competitions. I am focused on AJP and UAEJJF tournaments because they know our value. If I fight IBJJF worlds, I will be ready to give it all,” the 33-year-old athlete commented.
At the end, Israel left a message to his master, Júlio Cesar Pereira, and all that helped him: “I thank my family and GFTeam for the support. I also thank my master Júlio Cesar, who has always been by my side. Also my coach Emerson Neves for his excellent work and my nutritionist Andrea Dinh,” he said.
