‘Sou um dos melhores finalizadores do mundo’, diz Gordon após ‘show’ no ADCC

Tido como uma das principais revelações no Jiu-Jitsu sem quimono, Gordon Ryan mostrou seu valor no último final de semana (23 e 24), durante a disputa do ADCC 2017, realizado em Espoo, na Finlândia. O atleta, de apenas 22 anos, foi campeão na categoria até 88kg e impressionou por sua grande atuação, onde finalizou nomes como Rômulo Barral e Keenan Cornelius, além de derrotar Dillon Danis e Xande Ribeiro na decisão dos árbitros.

No absoluto, lutando contra atletas mais pesados, Ryan voltou a dar show. Finalizou Roberto Cyborg, Craig Jones e Mahamed Aly, sendo parado apenas na grande final, quando foi derrotado por Preguiça nos pontos. Após o título em sua divisão e o vice no absoluto, o jovem americano – principal surpresa da competição – utilizou suas redes sociais para falar sobre o seu primeiro ADCC, onde conquistou resultados expressivos e fez história.

“Muito a dizer. Tantas reflexões… Primeiro, deixe-me dizer obrigado a todos os fãs que me apoiaram. Vocês são incríveis e adoro e aprecio cada um de vocês. Obrigado a minha família por viajar a meio caminho do mundo apenas para me assistir. Obrigado, minha equipe, meus amigos, meus irmãos e irmãs, por me ajudar neste camp inteiro. Obrigado ao ADCC por executar um evento profissional bem organizado. Agora, sobre a competição. Eu ganhei Dillon (Danis) na decisão (dos árbitros), finalizei Rômulo (Barral), venci Xande (Ribeiro) na decisão e finalizei Keenan (Cornelius) na final da categoria até 88kg. No peso aberto, finalizei (Roberto) Cyborg, finalizei Craig Jones e Mahamed Aly e perdi para o Pena (Felipe Preguiça) na final. Estou muito feliz e agradecido pelos resultados que ocorreram. Com 22 anos e no meu primeiro ADCC, já não tenho queixas. Eu tive oito lutas, com cinco finalizações. Fiz exatamente o que eu disse que ia fazer: entrei e dominei a divisão mais empilhada da história do ADCC. Ainda fui o segundo colocado no absoluto. Eu provei que eu sou o melhor finalizador na minha categoria. E, em geral, o número 3 entre os maiores finalizadores do mundo, atrás do Pena (Felipe Preguiça) e André (Galvão, atual campeão da superluta do ADCC). Se há uma lição a ser aprendida é a de que não importa o quão bom você seja, não importa o que você conquiste, nunca acredite na sua própria expectativa. Treine todos os dias. Mesmo depois de tudo que fiz, não ganhei os dois ouros. E as lutas que venci, não foram todas por finalização. Lembre-se dessas palavras e você também pode conquistar o que eu tenho, e possivelmente mais. Desculpe-me se esqueci de alguém e lamento não agradecer a todos individualmente. São muitas pessoas. Ahhh. So much to say. So many reflections.. 1st let me say thank you to all the fans who have supported me through thick and thin. You ALL are amazing and I love and appreciate every single one of you. Thank you to my family for traveling half way around the world just to watch me and my team compete. Thank you my team, my friends. My brothers and sisters for helping me this whole camp and at renzos and Brunswick/ocbjj. Thank you to adcc for running such a well organized professional event. I won a decision over dillon, subbed romulo, decision over xande, subbed Keenan for the finals of 88kg. In the open weight I subbed cyborg, subbed craig Jones, subbed mo aly, lost to Pena in the finals by a back take with around 2 minutes left. I’m overall very happy and thankful for the results that have taken place. At 22 years old and my 1st ADCC ever I have no complaints. I had 8 matches with 5 submissions. I did exactly what I said I was going to do. I came in and dominated the most stacked division in adcc history. And took second in the absolute which is icing on the cake. I proved that i am the absolute best submission grappler on earth at 194 lbs. And overall the number 3 submission grappler on earth behind Pena and Andre (current super fight champion). If there’s a lesson to be learned. It is that no matter how good you are. No matter what you achieve. Never believe your own hype. Show up to training every single fucking day like you ain’t shit. Even after everything I did. I didn’t take double gold. And the matches I won were not all by submission. Remember these words. And you too can accomplish what I have. And possible far more.. I’m sorry if I forgot anyone and I’m sorry I can’t thank everyone individually. There’s so many people. Just. Thank you guys for the support.
